I've heard it all too many times before
Giant mechanized suit created for war
By an evil, ambivalent military complex
Piloted by children with no experience
Who thrusts that suit of armor into situations without context
It's a mech, not a robot
It's a tool not a life
It's a mech not a robot
But if that mech is able to love the human inside
And dreams of the day it's one purpose dies
Then that mech was a robot who tried
AGainst the system
A living example of existentialism
What kind of life is it too only know
How to inflict damage and destroy your foes
I watched it's death and I started to dream
That hunk of steel was not what it seemed
Behind those lightning hands and thunder thighs
That iron giant was actually alive
It's a mech not a robot
Or is it a robot not a mech
Has anyone bothered to check
I swear, I swear I saw the light
The spark behind that automaton's eyes
I swear I felt the sadness in its fight
Never knowing wrong from right
Only it's master's directive
The subjective objective
And when it starts to think
We call it defective
But if that mech is able to feel
It's reality isn't very real
The empty darkness within it's soul
Then that mech has a beautiful robot soul
Can't you feel it
The locked away human spirit
Or have we killed it
In the end that mech is not so distant
From humanity's trademark ignorance and indifference
There's no victory for that giant metal Sisyphus
From the citizen voting independent
Like the Native American descendant
Like the man all too sentient
That the dream has transcended
And that no one is innocent
